Freedom Brigade #84 - Nazi Robot by roygbiv666 Freedom Brigade #84 - Nazi Robot by roygbiv666
Freedom Brigade #84 (Sep 1986)
The Reich's Iron Fist

As war operations in the European Theatre heat up, can the diminished forces of the Freedom Brigade defeat the Nazi's latest death machine?!?!

John Byrne does cover duty on this classic for Standard Comics' WWII-set "Freedom Brigade" series.

Roll Call:
The Villain
A Giant Nazi Robot
The Heroes
Grim Reaper - Bill Norris was studying in Paris when the Nazis occupied the city, so he took up a costume and proceeded to "terrorize the terrorists", as he referred to them. He was, at one point, "number one on the Gestapo's wanted list", and was often shown working behind enemy lines in the German underground. I think of him as an inspiring patriotic character (think Captain America) who uses fear as a weapon against the Nazis (think Batman). No powers, just a fighter, with a gun and sword. (A total Z-Lister, but I like him!)
The Flag - has "the speed of the wind and the strength of a 100 men" as well as invulnerability to all man-made weapons. He left a star-spangled trail behind him whenever he ran or flew.
Daredevil - As a child, Bart Hill was witness to his parents' brutal murder. He trained his entire life in the art of the boomerang, eventually becoming a master boomerang marksman and acrobat. No powers. The Claw's arch-nemesis.
Black Terror - possesses super strength and invulnerability
Nelvana - Nelvana was a demi-goddess, could fly, travel at the speed of light, become invisible, control the weather, change form, and use her magic cloak to change into human form from light form. She was a Canadian, half-Inuit superhero and one of the first female superheroes, pre-dating Wonder Woman by about 5 months. And yet she's not on kids' backpacks, go figure.

Setting the Standard in Comics!!

If there's one thing worse than a giant killer robot, it's a NAZI giant killer robot.

You think John Byrne's gonna put you on his resume?

Yeah, I wish. But it's pretty sweet.
